Don’t be attached to your kitchen sponge!
Please be aware!!! Sponges have the potential to pick up bacteria like salmonella, ecoli and staphylococcus, due to the porous nature and water soaking capacity. A sponge can contain up to 54 billion bacterial cells.
There also have been studies to show around 56,000 people are sickened by food bourne illnesses each year in the U.S.
Can you say yikes! Well, now that I have grossed you out, please don’t have a come apart . You might ask, “what can I use if I can’t use a sponge?”
Here are some of the following items:
1- Microfiber Cloths
Amazon Basics microfiber cleaning cloth 24 pack.
I like these cloths, because they are colored coated and reduce cross contamination.
You can order a 24 pack from Amazon for $12.81.
2- Dish Brush
(Oxo Good Grips Dish Brush)
I generally rather use a dish brush with getting those stubborn areas, when cleaning pots and pans. You can get this particular brush for $4.99 from Amazon.
3. Whatever you do, please DO NOT warm your sponge up in the microwave with bleach, assuming you are killing the bacteria off the sponge.
It only kills 60% of all bacteria off the sponge.
If you have wiped your surfaces down with your sponge after you have prepared raw chicken, I urge you to please by all means throw sponge away! I promise you will thank me later!
4. If you just have to use a sponge by all means, please change it out weekly .
Clean out with bleach water, allowing 24 hours to dry out .
There you have it! So fresh and clean. Until next time make it a good day!
