Are you spending your whole day cleaning on Saturday? Does cleaning feel more like a project lately?
Do you remember as a kid you would dread waking up on the weekend because you would have to spend half the day cleaning? Could the headache of what comes with cleanliness be the reason some people hate it so much? People have been waking up on Saturday morning to clean for years.
I took it upon myself just out of curiosity and asked a few people how much time they were spending cleaning specifically on the weekend. I was a little surprised at the number of hours I was given, some said anywhere from 6 to 8 hours. My first thought was how frustrating that could be for anyone.
Here’s a solution to minimize a 6-8-hour cleaning day on a Saturday:

I will begin with color coordinating your calendar with days of the week.
Give yourself Friday off, let’s call that Free Friday!
This task schedule with Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday will allow you to get things done daily while only spending an hour at the most on cleaning,
Remember you have Friday’s free.
*Saturday *Monday *Thursday
Floor and laundry days, swifter floors and vacuum
Some Wash cycle takes 30 to 45 mins so you can wash one load over those 3 days.
While wash cycle is running swifter/mop your floors.
Monday – Lets use an (orange highlighter) on your calendar for this day. You are starting the week on Mondays which are your light days. Wash your delicate on Monday. While the wash cycle is going just go around your floor areas with a dry swifter. This should pull up mild dust from floors.
Thursday all your towels and linen should be washed use a (yellow highlighter) on the calendar, which will indicate your light-colored wash days. While your towels and linen are in the wash cycle. This would be good to go ahead and mop or wet swifter your floors.
Saturday will prepare you for the beginning of the week. Wash your colored clothes uniforms, work, or school clothes. For Saturday use a (blue highlighter) on your calendar. While the wash cycle is going proceed to vacuum floors on this day.
*Tuesday & Sunday
Dusting & Bathrooms
Ok now we can’t forget about the bathrooms and dusting living areas. These days will be on Tuesday and Sunday, you will lightly dust living areas, bedrooms, family room etc. and clean bathrooms.
Use a (green highlighter) for these days on your calendar.
I recommend this product for your bathroom showers, which will eliminate scrubbing or wiping down.
Tilex Daily Shower Cleaner
This product is a win win!!! Just spray down no rinse or wiping and keep moving.
This prevents build up from soap scum, hard water deposits, and mildew stains.
Spraying down your shower and tub daily will help tremendously with this product.
Proceed to wipe down sink and bathroom counters and spray your mirrors.
Lightly dust your living areas which would be bedrooms, family room, dining area, etc. Swifter dusters are great for lightly dusting.
Follow the same step on Sunday
Pick UP & Purge Day
Wednesday will be your pick up and purge day. Use a (pink highlighter) for these days on your calendar.
Pick up shoes maybe that’s been in the hallway or laundry room. Pick up clothes that were tossed from your closet onto your Lounge chair, etc.
Remove old items from your refrigerator, this will keep your refrigerator smelling better if this is done on a weekly basis.
While you are removing items wash out any containers that had food or liquids in them.
Daily wash dishes or place in dishwasher to be washed.
I have also added cleaning the other items on a monthly basis which I would suggestion your monthly tasks to do on Wednesday, if you would like to stretch it out on a weekly Wednesday. You’re still going to pick up and purge but add one of the tasks each week.
Remember, you have Friday off and no more cleaning all day on Saturdays!
